Wouldn’t it be great if there were a way to use Pinterest to frighten off influenza? That’s what the forces at the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) and Voices for Vaccines asked themselves as the leaves started to turn and a scary crisp returned to the air.

Now you can help us say boo to the flu! Using pumpkins and Pinterest to help raise awareness about influenza vaccines and prevention is not only important, but it can be fun! And anyone can participate.

Here’s what you do:

  • Decorate or carve your pumpkin to scare off the flu. Get creative, and get the kids involved, too!
  • Send us your pumpkins via email ([email protected]) or via a message to VFV’s Facebook or Pinterest accounts by October 31! (Be sure to tell us we have permission to post it on Pinterest.)
  • Ask your friends to re-pin your pumpkin because NFID is awarding the pumpkin with the most pins a prize. (The earlier you send us your pumpkin photos—the better!)

That’s right! The pumpkin with the most re-pins will receive a Shots Book package, including the book (in English and Spanish), a cape, and a stuffed puppy. (The Pinterest board will be run by VFV. The contest is sponsored by NFID. All questions about the contest can be directed to NFID at [email protected]. Contest rules found here.)

It’s that simple! Working together and having fun just might help remind everyone to prevent the flu this Halloween.
