A new\u00a0video<\/a> based on old claims asserts that scientists in Canada discovered previously undisclosed DNA in COVID mRNA vaccines, which they claim causes cancer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]The DNA many misinformed have claimed is running amock in mRNA vaccines is from a virus named SV40,\u00a0a simian\u00a0virus<\/a>\u00a0that is most commonly found in the kidneys of several kinds of monkeys. It can also sometimes infect\u00a0humans<\/a>\u00a0and can potentially cause cancer via\u00a0tumor (T) antigens<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, early batches of the polio vaccine became\u00a0contaminated<\/a>\u00a0with SV40, and the methods used to\u00a0inactivate<\/a>\u00a0the poliovirus did not reliably inactivate SV40. Importantly, epidemiological studies have found\u00a0no increased\u00a0<\/a>cancer risk\u00a0in those who received these vaccines.<\/p>\n

Since then, a promoter gene (a DNA sequence that starts RNA transcription)\u00a0of SV40 has been\u00a0found<\/a>\u00a0to promote a high level of gene expression for producing proteins and has been used in\u00a0DNA vaccines<\/a>. The sequence used is just the promoter gene and does not include any part of the DNA sequence that encodes for the T antigen of SV40. While promoters like the SV40 promoter are used in the manufacturing of mRNA vaccines, they are not considered an ingredient in the vaccines as the vast majority of it is removed during production.<\/p>\n

Manufacturing vaccines for a small batch for a trial is a very different\u00a0process\u00a0than\u00a0manufacturing<\/a>\u00a0thousands of doses at a time.\u00a0Process\u00a01 is\u00a0the\u00a0small batch\u00a0process, while\u00a0process\u00a02 is\u00a0the\u00a0scaled-up version.<\/p>\n

Although\u00a0the\u00a0processes\u00a0are different, they are both held to\u00a0the\u00a0same safety and quality standards.<\/p>\n

Original claims that DNA plasmids were found in mRNA vaccines at a higher proportion of mRNA to DNA than is allowed by FDA guidelines stem from a previous preprint\u00a0paper<\/a>\u00a0acknowledging that one limitation of\u00a0the\u00a0study is\u00a0the\u00a0\u201cunknown provenance of\u00a0the\u00a0vaccine vials under study.\u201d<\/p>\n

They also note that\u00a0the\u00a0vaccines arrived without proper cold chain\u00a0processes\u00a0and were all expired. They follow up that paper with this\u00a0pr<\/a>eprint<\/a>, where the authors obtained and tested \u201c24 unopened expired vials\u201d and \u201cthree vials of in-date remnants\u201d. As mRNA\u00a0degrades<\/a>\u00a0much faster than DNA, especially when held in suboptimal conditions, any proportion of trace amounts of DNA used in manufacturing would be amplified in expired vials, as these were,\u00a0 or ones not held in optimal conditions.<\/p>\n
