It\u2019s the myth that won\u2019t die:\u00a0vaccines and autism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]This\u00a0claim stems from a 2014 re-analysis of a 2004 study, which was eventually retracted citing undeclared competing interests on the part of the author. The author, Dr. Brian Hooker, analyzed a case-control\u00a0dataset<\/a>\u00a0as a\u00a0cohort<\/a>\u00a0study, which gave skewed results.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0CDC\u00a0issued a\u00a0statement<\/a>\u00a0regarding the data\u00a0in\u00a0question, along with a link to the study, and notes that while there was a small correlation with\u00a0autism\u00a0in\u00a0young vaccinated children, it was likely because there were\u00a0vaccine\u00a0requirements for\u00a0autistic\u00a0children enrolled\u00a0in\u00a0special education preschool programs.<\/p>\n

So instead of taking a randomized group of children and looking for a correlation between vaccines and\u00a0autism,\u00a0Dr. Hooker\u00a0<\/a>took a study of children\u00a0that purposely included vaccinated\u00a0autistic\u00a0children and concluded that\u00a0autistic\u00a0children were more likely to be vaccinated, not that the vaccinated children were more likely to be\u00a0autistic, given the population the study was looking at.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
