A\u00a0video<\/a>\u00a0featuring RFK Jr. in August 2020 purports to show him predicting\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0future, as he discusses how he thought\u00a0the<\/span> COVID vaccine would be oversold and followed by a period of tempering expectations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]Was it\u00a0prophetic\u00a0to warn that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine would\u00a0lose effectiveness over time? Not when you understand\u00a0how vaccines work.<\/p>\n

When\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0COVID vaccine first came out, it had a\u00a0high efficacy<\/a>. Over time,\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0virus mutated and protection waned, so efficacy against mild disease dropped.\u00a0We know that while our antibodies wane, our\u00a0T cells\u00a0<\/a>last far longer, meaning that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0virus might start replicating in our system even months after we have been vaccinated, but our memory cells will enter\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0fight and keep us out of\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0hospital and out of serious danger from\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0disease.<\/p>\n

None of this was much of a prediction, given that two months before RFK Jr. recorded that video,\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0FDA\u00a0explained<\/a>\u00a0that it \u201cwould expect that a COVID-19 vaccine would prevent disease or decrease its severity in at least 50% of people who are vaccinated.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
