A common concern about vaccines, often\u00a0exploited<\/a>\u00a0by anti-vaccine factions, is that they will overstimulate\u00a0the<\/span> immune system into developing an autoimmune disorder.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]A\u00a0large study<\/a>\u00a0from South Korea and Japan found that people who had COVID\u00a0are at a higher risk of developing autoimmune rheumatic\u00a0diseases (AIRD)\u00a0,such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, within a year after infection. However, COVID-infected patients who had prior vaccination against COVID\u00a0did not show increased risk for AIRD, with\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0exception of patients with severe COVID.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0study, one of\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0largest on this topic in Asian populations, used data from millions of adults and compared those who had COVID-19 with those who had influenza or were not infected. It showed that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0risk of autoimmune diseases after COVID\u00a0was about 25% to 30% higher compared to those without infection. This risk dropped back to normal after a year.
