Claims on\u00a0Twitter<\/a>\u00a0and RFK Jr\u2019s organization\u00a0website<\/a> could leave people with the impression that HPV vaccines are causing severe injury and death in adolescent girls.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]These claims rely heavily on VAERS and lawsuits.<\/p>\n

What is VAERS? The\u00a0Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) analyzes reports of adverse events that happen after vaccination. Anyone can submit a report to\u00a0VAERS<\/a>, and submissions do not mean that a vaccine definitely caused\u00a0the\u00a0event.<\/p>\n

One doctor famously submitted a report that\u00a0the\u00a0flu shot turned him into\u00a0the\u00a0Incredible Hulk<\/a>.\u00a0VAERS\u00a0is helpful for keeping track of vaccine safety, but\u00a0just\u00a0because something is reported doesn\u2019t mean\u00a0the\u00a0vaccine caused it. Even if they\u2019re not sure, doctors should report any important health problems that happen after vaccination.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0most pertinent warning on\u00a0the\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0helps put\u00a0the\u00a0above claims into context:\u00a0\u201cVAERS\u00a0reports may contain information that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable.\u00a0Reports to\u00a0VAERS\u00a0can also be biased. As a result, there are limitations on how\u00a0the\u00a0data can be used scientifically. Data\u00a0from\u00a0VAERS\u00a0reports should always be interpreted with these limitations in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0CDC<\/a>, \u201cfindings from many vaccine safety monitoring systems and more than 160 studies have shown that HPV vaccines have a favorable safety profile\u2014the body of scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports their safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additionally, A compelling Swedish\u00a0study<\/a>\u00a0of 1.7 million women demonstrates an almost\u00a090% reduction<\/a>\u00a0in cervical cancer rates in\u00a0the\u00a0vaccinated population versus\u00a0the\u00a0unvaccinated population.<\/p>\n
