An\u00a0author of thrillers<\/a> is scaring the public with a supposed quote from Dr. Anthony Fauci saying that flu vaccines are so ineffective that they never should have been licensed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]In general, to be approved, vaccines are required to have an efficacy of 50% or above. While some years the flu vaccine can have an effectiveness\u00a0as high as 60%<\/a>, it can often be much lower, around 40%. And in some bad years such as the 2004-2005 flu season, around 10%. Does that mean that the vaccine doesn\u2019t work as claimed by the tweeter?<\/p>\n

Low effectiveness doesn\u2019t mean no effectiveness. From 2005-2014, over 40,000\u00a0lives were saved<\/a>\u00a0because of the flu vaccines, even when\u00a0fewer than 50%<\/a>\u00a0of the people were vaccinated for influenza. With the risks of influenza being higher than the\u00a0risks of the vaccine<\/a>, vaccinating is a much safer bet than rolling the dice with disease.<\/p>\n
