An\u00a0old myth<\/a> is going around claiming that HCG was added to tetanus vaccines in Kenya in order to cause infertility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]This rumor is based on a\u00a0tiny bit of truth<\/a>. Scientists did create a vaccine that could also work as birth control in the early 1990s. It didn\u2019t cause infertility and wasn\u2019t even effective enough as birth control to go public. Only about 80% of women in the test made enough antibodies to prevent pregnancies.<\/p>\n

In Kenya, in order to combat neonatal tetanus, The WHO and UNICEF worked to improve vaccination rates among women of child-bearing age.<\/p>\n

Because of the persistence of the old rumors, testing was done on these vaccines. These tests\u00a0detected a low level of \u201cHCG-like activity<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0thus launching the idea that the\u00a0HCG\u00a0was purposely placed in the vaccines to sterilize women.<\/p>\n

The testing done was not to the standards that regulatory agencies such as the FDA would demand. If the\u00a0HCG-positive results held, the amount of\u00a0HCG\u00a0that was detected would be\u00a0far too low<\/a>\u00a0to affect fertility.<\/p>\n
