Often, epidemiologists need to pool together data to come up with an estimate of risk\u2013known as an adjusted effect estimate. A Table 2 Fallacy results from\u00a0multiple<\/em>\u00a0adjusted effect estimates from a single model presented in a single table.\u00a0Problems arise\u00a0when different types of estimates are presented on\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0same table.<\/p>\n

In this case\u00a0a table presents\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0results of multiple doses of a vaccine.\u00a0It\u2019s important to adjust for prior vaccination doses, but we\u00a0can\u2019t then use that same adjustment to draw conclusions\u00a0about\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0efficacy of those prior doses.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0actual results of\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0study conclude that \u201cthe<\/span>\u00a0bivalent COVID-19 vaccine booster was 30% effective in preventing infection, during\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0time when\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0virus strains dominant in\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0community were represented in\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine.\u201d\u00a0This conclusion\u00a0is supported by another\u00a0analysis<\/a>\u00a0showing that bivalent boosters\u00a0had an effectiveness of 59% against hospitalization and 62% against hospitalization or death.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
