Twitter<\/a> is a-twitter with claims that COVID vaccines cause serious adverse events at a rate of 1 in 800 and increase your risk of death.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]The\u00a0British cardiologist<\/a>\u00a0makes these claims by citing a\u00a0paper<\/a>\u00a0authored\u00a0by\u00a0a member of the Public Health Integrity Committee formed by Ron DeSantis and overseen by surgeon Joseph Ladapo. and an\u00a0AIDS denier<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0paper\u00a0claims that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines lead to an excess risk of serious adverse events. But Table 2 of the paper shows that in almost every category for both risk difference and risk ratio, the confidence interval was 0, essentially stating that statistically, \u201cno difference was observed.\u201d\u00a0Multiple peer-reviewed studies have shown that serious adverse events from the COVID vaccine are\u00a0rare,\u00a0<\/a>and the benefits of vaccination outweigh its risks.<\/p>\n

While wildly overstating the number of serious adverse events from the COVID vaccine, the cardiologist also falsely conflates the COVID vaccine with the 1976 swine\u00a0flu\u00a0and\u00a0RotaShield<\/a>\u00a0vaccines and their withdrawal from the market. The decision to withdraw\u00a0these vaccines was not exclusively based on adverse events.<\/p>\n

These decisions also weigh vaccine benefits versus risks. In the two cases of withdrawn vaccines, the vaccine\u2019s benefits did not outweigh the risks. Conversely, the life-saving\u00a0benefits<\/a>\u00a0of the COVID vaccine vastly outweigh the rare\u00a0risks<\/a>\u00a0of an adverse event.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
