He also claims that the American Medical Association changed the diagnostic criteria for polio to make it seem like it was eliminated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;The Facts:&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]Polio is a viral infection caused by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/polio\/what-is-polio\/index.htm\">poliovirus<\/a>. The virus was first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC112492\/\">isolated<\/a>\u00a0in 1908 and, in research, was given to a healthy animal subject to show that the virus did cause polio. Two healthy monkeys were injected with spinal cord fluid from a boy who had died of polio; the monkeys subsequently developed polio and died.<\/p>\n<p>While pesticides such as DDT might be associated with neurological effects such as paralysis, which might mirror the side effects of polio,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/neuroscience\/paralytic-polio#:~:text=Over%2085%25%20of%20paralytic%20infections,groups%2C%20causing%20a%20flaccid%20paralysis.\">the way polio causes paralysis<\/a>\u00a0differs from how a pesticide might. Additionally, DDT was occasionally used in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.journals.uchicago.edu\/doi\/abs\/10.1093\/envhis\/emx086?journalCode=eh\">misguided attempt<\/a>\u00a0to stop the spread of polio when some believed it was spread by flies, meaning that the polio outbreaks preceded some of the exposure to DDT.<\/p>\n<p>The peak use of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/archive\/epa\/aboutepa\/ddt-ban-takes-effect.html\">DDT<\/a>\u00a0was in 1959, when polio cases started declining, thanks to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/polio\/what-is-polio\/polio-us.html\">polio vaccine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If DDT and not a virus cause polio, could the tweeter explain how he claims a vaccine made can cause polio but not the wild-type virus?
