A\u00a0tweet<\/a>\u00a0uses a news video to claim that research suggests the COVID vaccine might suppress the immune system, resulting in heart problems, blood clots, and reduced ability to fight off future infections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]It shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise that a news station\u00a0widely recognized for fanning the flames of vaccine hesitancy<\/a>\u00a0is running yet another anti-vaccine segment based on flawed claims unsupported by facts.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s start with the facts first. An immune response can be measured by the presence of\u00a0interferons<\/a>\u00a0(IFNs) in the body. Interferon is a natural substance that helps the body\u2019s immune system fight disease.\u00a0Research<\/a>\u00a0shows that interferon is produced\u2014not suppressed\u2014by vaccination and that those who had received a vaccine prior to hospitalization for COVID had a better antiviral interferon response than those who were unvaccinated.<\/p>\n

First, the author of the first paper mentioned should cause some hesitation. Previously she has claimed that vaccines cause\u00a0autism<\/a>\u00a0and suggests that\u00a0glyphosate<\/a>\u00a0is a factor in COVID. Second, in this\u00a0paper<\/a>\u00a0is a claim that, when compared with those infected with COVID, there is a \u201cdramatic upregulation \u2026 of interferons (IFNs) in COVID-19 patients, but not in vaccinees.\u201d arguing that this is consistent with the idea that the anti-COVID-19 vaccines actively suppress type I IFN signaling when that is not borne out by the evidence.\u201d As we have explained above, research shows the opposite of this claim: interferon is produced\u2014not suppressed\u2014by vaccination.<\/p>\n

Finally, the news segment claims that a\u00a0Lancet study<\/a>\u00a0supports the conclusions of the paper. This is also untrue.
