An online platform\u00a0claims<\/a>\u00a0that people are having acute kidney injury and acute renal failure after receiving the Pfizer mRNA COVID-19 vaccination.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Although it is true that kidney injury and renal failure are listed as possible vaccine adverse events, these vaccine-related injuries are very rare. An\u00a0article<\/a>\u00a0highlights just how rare of an event this is using VAERS, a system anyone can use to report a suspected adverse event following vaccination. VAERS data shows 1133 self-reported cases of kidney injury between Dec 2020 and June 2021, with over\u00a0300 million<\/a>\u00a0doses of vaccine administered. Remember, these cases of injury can be reported to VAERS whether or not they were actually caused by the vaccine.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also important to note that though some\u00a0research<\/a>\u00a0indicates that the vaccine may, in very rare cases, cause kidney injury, that research also indicates that COVID infection itself is a common source of kidney damage and is \u201cproven to be one of the main risk factors for worse prognosis in intensive care units.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, the online claim attempts to suggest that an infant was included in the Pfizer vaccine population, even though infants were not authorized for participation. However, study\u00a0documents<\/a>\u00a0show that this infant was only included because the infant was breastfed by a participating parent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
