Joseph Ladapo is both a physician and, more importantly, the Florida Surgeon General. On the outside, that should mean that his words lend some credibility to his statements, but his comments are offered without evidence and even against scientific consensus built from actual evidence.<\/p>\n

It’s also ironic that Dr. Ladapo questions the evidence provided by CDC and FDA. He was caught\u00a0manipulating<\/a>\u00a0findings in a COVID vaccine safety study to exaggerate risks of cardiac death for young men.\u00a0In science, it is important to follow the science where it takes us, not to take the science where we want to go.<\/p>\n

What of his particular COVID vaccine concerns?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. The risks of myocarditis are much\u00a0lower<\/a>\u00a0after vaccination than the risks of myocarditis from COVID itself.<\/li>\n
  2. The guidance cites a\u00a0paper<\/a>\u00a0as evidence that vaccines cause autoimmune disease, but the authors say “we conclude that mRNA-based vaccinations are\u00a0not<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0associated with an increased risk of most AI-CTDs”<\/li>\n
  3. The vaccine protection does wane, which is why boosters are recommended to increase protection against COVID disease.<\/li>\n
  4. mRNA integration into DNA cannot and does not happen.\u00a0DNA\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0whole of\u00a0the\u00a0genetic\u00a0instructions for\u00a0the\u00a0development, functioning, and growth of every system in your body. It is housed in\u00a0the\u00a0cell\u2019s nucleus (and in almost every cell in your body) which is surrounded by a nuclear membrane, separating\u00a0the\u00a0DNA from\u00a0the\u00a0rest of\u00a0the\u00a0cellSince DNA is kept separate, messenger RNA (mRNA) is produced to bring individual instructions to\u00a0the\u00a0rest of\u00a0the\u00a0cell.\u00a0The\u00a0mRNA can cross\u00a0the\u00a0nuclear membrane through\u00a0the\u00a0pores that allow for selective transport into and out of\u00a0the\u00a0nucleus. Generally, mRNA can exit\u00a0but\u00a0cannot re-enter<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0nucleus. Before it exits\u00a0the\u00a0nucleus, it is essentially given a one-way ticket that allows it through\u00a0the\u00a0membrane, and as it passes through, that ticket is removed, so it cannot re-enter\u00a0the\u00a0nucleus.The\u00a0mRNA vaccine does not have a ticket to enter any cell’s nucleus. Without a ticket, it isn’t getting to anyone’s DNA and it certainly isn’t changing it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
