This does not mean these vaccines are untested or unsafe; they are.\u00a0The<\/span>\u00a0EUA process allows for vaccines to be used in emergencies, like\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0COVID\u00a0pandemic, after rigorous testing and ongoing monitoring.<\/p>\n

These vaccines have been shown to reduce\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID, even in younger populations, and\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0benefits of these vaccines far\u00a0outweigh\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0risks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0idea that there’s no licensed vaccine for kids under 12\u00a0is misleading because EUA vaccines are carefully monitored, and ongoing data collection lets us know that they are safe.\u00a0The<\/span>\u00a0difference between EUA and full licensure is mainly\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0length of time\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0data has been available, not\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0rigor of safety testing.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0supposed evidence\u00a0that these vaccines are unsafe comes from VAERS.\u00a0What is\u00a0VAERS?\u00a0The<\/span>\u00a0Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) analyzes unverified reports of adverse events that happen after vaccination. Anyone can submit a report to\u00a0VAERS<\/a>, and submissions do not mean that a vaccine caused\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0event.<\/p>\n

One doctor famously submitted a report that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0flu shot turned him into\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Incredible Hulk<\/a>.\u00a0VAERS\u00a0is helpful for keeping track of vaccine safety, but\u00a0just<\/span>\u00a0because something is reported doesn\u2019t mean\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine caused it. Even if they\u2019re not sure, doctors should report any important health problems that happen after vaccination.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0most pertinent warning on\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0helps put\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0above claims into context:\u00a0\u201cVAERS\u00a0reports may contain\u00a0information<\/span>\u00a0that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable.\u00a0Reports to\u00a0VAERS\u00a0can also be biased. As a result, there are limitations on how\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0data can be used scientifically.
