Because many conspiracy theories share similar underlying themes, such as distrust in authorities or\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0idea of hidden, powerful groups controlling events, once someone accepts one conspiracy theory, they become more receptive to others that fit within this worldview. They become trapped in a self-reinforcing cycle of conspiratorial thinking.<\/p>\n

Babies are subjected to more\u00a0challenges to their immune system<\/a>\u00a0at birth than they will be\u00a0in\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0entire immunization\u00a0schedule. Keep\u00a0in\u00a0mind that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0amount of any ingredient\u00a0in\u00a0vaccines\u00a0is very small<\/a>–smaller than what a child will\u00a0encounter naturally<\/a>\u00a0through living and breathing and eating, and as\u00a0this\u00a0study of\u00a0aluminum\u00a0in\u00a0vaccines<\/a>\u00a0shows, they do not accumulate\u00a0in\u00a0a child’s body to toxic levels.<\/p>\n

Because millions and millions of children have followed\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine\u00a0schedule, scientists have been able to\u00a0conduct studies showing that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0schedule\u00a0is safe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0U.S., a special program called\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0National\u00a0Vaccine Injury Compensation Program<\/a>\u00a0(VICP) helps people who vaccines may have harmed. This program exists because vaccines protect public health, and very rare adverse reactions can occur. However, vaccine makers are not free from responsibility\u2014this system ensures claims can be handled fairly without discouraging companies from developing vaccines that save lives.<\/p>\n

But are vaccines\u00a0unavoidably\u00a0harmful? In 2011,\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Supreme Court decided a case called\u00a0Bruesewitz v. Wyeth<\/a>. This case started when\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0parents of a girl who was thought to have serious side effects from a vaccine sued\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0company that made\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine. Her parents believed that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine was poorly designed, and that’s what caused her problems.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Supreme Court agreed with\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine manufacturer. They said that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act protects vaccine makers from being sued if a vaccine causes injuries or death *as long as\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0side effects are\u00a0unavoidable\u00a0and\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine is made and labeled correctly.* They explained\u00a0that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0law stops any lawsuits that claim a vaccine\u2019s design is defective.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0court didn’t say that all vaccines are “unavoidably\u00a0unsafe<\/a>.”\u00a0The<\/span>\u00a0ruling\u00a0was\u00a0just<\/span>\u00a0about whether\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0parents could sue under this specific law.\u00a0The<\/span>\u00a0phrase “unavoidably\u00a0unsafe” was mentioned in\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0court\u2019s discussion, but it relates to\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0terms set by\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0law, not a general statement about vaccines.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
