Among\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0findings, 28% of Americans believe that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine has caused thousands of deaths (up from 22%), 22% believe it is safer to get COVID than\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine (up from 10%), and 15% believe that\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0vaccine can change your DNA (up from 8%).[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]These claims are based on laypeople searching\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS. As noted on\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0VAERS website, anyone can report anything to VAERS, regardless of causation.<\/p>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0most important warning on\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0website helps put\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0above claims into context:\u00a0\u201cVAERS reports may contain information that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable.\u00a0<\/strong>Reports to VAERS can also be biased. As a result, there are limitations on how\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0data can be used scientifically. Data from VAERS reports should always be interpreted with these limitations in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

These death\u00a0claims usually don\u2019t have any proof to back them up. In fact,\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0life-saving benefits of\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0COVID vaccine<\/a>\u00a0vastly outweigh\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0rare risks<\/a>\u00a0of an adverse event.<\/p>\n
