This is a special edition of our newsletter where we will tackle several claims from that hearing.<\/p>\n

Senator Johnson claimed that COVID vaccines have caused 38,607 reported deaths.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=”The Facts:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]These claims are based on laypeople searching\u00a0the\u00a0Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS. As noted on\u00a0the\u00a0VAERS website, anyone can report anything to VAERS, regardless of causation.\u00a0If this claim were true to any degree, we would expect more deaths in areas with higher vaccination rates.\u00a0However,\u00a0higher excess deaths<\/a>\u00a0were seen in areas with lower vaccination rates.<\/p>\n

The website’s most important warning helps put\u00a0the\u00a0above claims into context:\u00a0\u201cVAERS reports may contain information that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable.\u00a0<\/strong>Reports to VAERS can also be biased. As a result, there are limitations on how\u00a0the\u00a0data can be used scientifically. Data from VAERS reports should always be interpreted with these limitations in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

These death\u00a0claims usually don\u2019t have any proof to back them up.<\/p>\n

What is the likely number of deaths actually caused by COVID\u00a0vaccines?\u00a0Careful reviews<\/a>\u00a0by CDC experts have found nine deaths in the United States linked to a rare blood-clotting condition after the Johnson\u202f&\u202fJohnson vaccine. No other deaths have been confirmed as caused by any COVID\u00a0shot, out of hundreds of millions of doses given.
