Conversely, the RSV vaccine is recommended in pregnancy to protect that same baby through passive immunity after they are born. RSV is a respiratory disease that can be very\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/rsv\/infants-young-children\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dangerous<\/a>\u00a0in infants and young babies. Vaccinating the mother in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chop.edu\/vaccine-education-center\/vaccine-details\/rsv-vaccine-monoclonal-antibody\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pregnancy<\/a>\u00a0between 32-36 weeks allows her to create antibodies which will then pass through the placenta to the fetus, protecting them from RSV for several months after birth.<\/p>\n<p>Some\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DiedSuddenly_\/status\/1741125743113854991?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claim<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0RSV\u00a0vaccines could\u00a0cause pre-term birth, and that\u00a0pharmaceutical companies knew this, but pushed\u00a0the\u00a0FDA to approve them nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>As a member of the FDA advisory committee, Dr. Paul Offit was directly involved in these discussions. During a publicly available\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chop.edu\/pages\/current-issues-vaccines-fall-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D86de829a6e%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1704685898053000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1SPK5sTGG1_epBfLH8AeLR\">webinar<\/a>,\u00a0Dr. Offit observed that an initial safety signal concerning pre-term birth appeared only in lower- and middle-income countries.\u00a0But in those places, the presence of an additional vaccine is not linked to an increase in prematurity rates in the vaccine group.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, there is a clear decrease in prematurity rates in the placebo group.
