Since human cells are sometimes best for growing human viruses, some vaccines use\u00a0cell\u00a0lines derived from two elective pregnancy terminations back in the 60s. Because these\u00a0cell\u00a0lines are practically immortal, manufacturers can continue using this\u00a0cell\u00a0line; there are no new sources of human\u00a0fetal\u00a0cells.<\/p>\n

While the viral vector COVID vaccine does use\u00a0fetal\u00a0cells in vaccine production, the mRNA vaccines do not. Because we are only synthesizing the mRNA, and not growing the virus,\u00a0plasmids<\/a>\u00a0are used instead of human or other animal cells. Human\u00a0cell\u00a0lines were used in the early stages of mRNA technology development only to research that they would theoretically work. However, these cells are\u00a0not used<\/a>\u00a0in mRNA vaccine production.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Vatican\u00a0<\/a>advised adherents\u00a0in 2005<\/a>\u00a0 about the acceptability of receiving some live, attenuated vaccines. To further clarify that statement, the Vatican issued\u00a0another\u00a0statement in 2017<\/a>, which reads:\u00a0\u201cThe moral obligation to guarantee the vaccination coverage necessary for the safety of others is no less urgent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pope Francis, who was\u00a0vaccinated in January\u00a02021, is\u00a0quoted as saying<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cI believe that morally everyone must take the vaccine.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Given the moral obligation to protect one\u2019s community and the unlikelihood that people will get to choose vaccines the way they choose toppings at Subway, people of all faiths should take the vaccine they are offered.<\/p>\n

But do the vaccines harm people?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Careful reviews<\/a>\u00a0by CDC experts have found nine deaths in the United States linked to a rare blood-clotting condition after the Johnson\u202f&\u202fJohnson vaccine. No other deaths have been confirmed as caused by any COVID\u00a0shot, out of hundreds of millions of doses given. That works out to far less than one death per million doses, many times lower than the risk of dying from COVID\u00a0itself.<\/p>\n

Some teens and young adults can get mild myocarditis after an mRNA dose, but most cases clear with rest, and catching COVID is still more likely to hurt the heart than the vaccine.\u202fIn most people, being\u00a0vaccinated<\/a>\u00a0on shots actually reduced the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and clots.<\/p>\n

The guidance cites a\u00a0paper<\/a>\u00a0as evidence that vaccines cause autoimmune disease, but the authors say \u201cwe conclude that mRNA-based vaccinations are\u00a0not<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0associated with an increased risk of most AI-CTDs\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0idea that COVID\u00a0vaccines cause \u201cturbo\u00a0cancer<\/a>\u201d has no scientific backing. Even\u00a0the\u00a0most potent carcinogens take\u00a0years<\/a>\u00a0to cause\u00a0cancer.\u00a0It would be some time before we saw spikes in\u00a0cancer.\u00a0Epidemiological data show no increase in\u00a0cancer\u00a0linked to\u00a0the\u00a0vaccines. Reports of rising early-onset\u00a0cancers\u00a0started in\u00a0the\u00a01990s<\/a>, long before\u00a0the\u00a0COVID\u00a0vaccines existed.<\/p>\n
