People first started reporting long COVID in early\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC7992371\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020<\/a>,\u00a0before vaccines even existed. This shows that vaccines are\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0what causes long COVID.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medrxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2025.02.18.25322379v1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paper<\/a>\u00a0Bridgen wrote\u00a0looked at\u00a0the\u00a0spike protein. This is the part of the virus that helps it get into our cells. Both getting COVID and getting a vaccine involve spike protein, but they work very differently:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you get COVID, the virus makes a lot of spike protein because it is spreading through your body.<\/li>\n<li>When you get the vaccine, your body makes only a small amount of spike protein for a short time so your immune system can learn to fight the virus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The researchers found that people who had COVID had more spike protein in their bodies than people who were only vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>Long COVID could potentially happen after getting the vaccine.\u00a0But it is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/content\/article\/rare-link-between-coronavirus-vaccines-and-long-covid-illness-starts-gain-acceptance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>much more likely<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to happen after getting sick with COVID because the real virus makes your body deal with a much bigger and stronger attack than the vaccine does.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do vaccines cause Long COVID?
