But information from the CDC\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/pinkbook\/hcp\/table-of-contents\/chapter-19-rotavirus.html\" rel=\"noopener\">pink book<\/a>\u00a0shows a very different picture. Before the rotavirus vaccine was used, rotavirus caused:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-end=\"458\" data-start=\"419\">About 410,000 doctor visits each year<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"458\" data-start=\"419\">More than 200,000 emergency room visits<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"458\" data-start=\"419\">Between 55,000 and 70,000 hospital stays<\/li>\n<li data-end=\"458\" data-start=\"419\">About 20 to 60 deaths every year in children under age 5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-end=\"816\" data-start=\"610\">Since then, the rotavirus vaccine has become available, even though\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC9199965\/\" rel=\"noopener\">not all children<\/a>\u00a0get it. It now prevents about 40,000 to 50,000 hospital stays each year in babies and young children in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>RFK Jr. also says that some rotavirus vaccines were linked to serious and deadly problems, including a condition called intussusception. This is a serious condition where part of the intestine slides into another part, like a telescope folding in on itself. This can block food from passing through and cut off blood flow, which can be life-threatening if not treated quickly.<\/p>\n<p>He says one vaccine was taken off the market because of this condition. That part is true. One\u00a0<strong>early<\/strong>\u00a0rotavirus vaccine was stopped after doctors found that intussusception happened in about 1 out of every\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chop.edu\/vaccine-education-center\/vaccine-details\/rotavirus-vaccine\" rel=\"noopener\">10,000 to 30,000<\/a>\u00a0doses.<\/p>\n<p>These facts show\u00a0two important things: first, that vaccine safety monitoring works, and second, that safety is taken seriously.
