However, Amish communities are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/groups.etown.edu\/amishstudies\/social-organization\/diversity\/\">diverse<\/a>, and families make different choices about medical care.<\/p>\n<p>Vaccination rates are often lower in Amish communities than in the general population, but they are not zero. In one\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/pediatrics\/article-abstract\/128\/1\/79\/30323\/Underimmunization-in-Ohio-s-Amish-Parental-Fears?autologincheck=redirected\">study<\/a>, 68% of parents said all of their children were vaccinated. Only 14% said none of their children were vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>Autism also occurs in people who have never received vaccines. Studies that compare vaccinated and unvaccinated children have not found a meaningful difference in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC9464417\/\">autism rates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers have also studied autism in Amish communities. In one study, children were screened for autism, and some met the guidelines for an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis.
