She says public health agencies around the world put pregnancy hormones in tetanus vaccines to make low-income women unable to have children.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;The Facts:&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; use_theme_fonts=&#8221;yes&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]This rumor began with a tiny amount of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jstor.org\/stable\/3775648#page=4\">real history<\/a>. In the early 1990s, researchers in India tested an experimental birth control vaccine. It used hCG, a hormone needed during early pregnancy, along with a protein related to tetanus toxin. The goal was to prevent pregnancy for a short time. The vaccine did not cause permanent infertility, and it did not work well enough to be offered to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Years later, the World Health Organization and UNICEF worked to protect women in Kenya from tetanus. Vaccinating women also protects newborn babies from a deadly form of the disease called neonatal tetanus.<\/p>\n<p>Because old rumors were still spreading, some vaccine samples were tested for hCG. Early tests reported a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rationalcatholicblog.wordpress.com\/2014\/11\/12\/does-the-kenyan-unicef-tetanus-vaccine-contain-hcg-and-make-women-infertile\/\">very small amount\u00a0<\/a>of \u201chCG-like activity.\u201d This led some people to claim that hCG had been secretly added to the vaccines to make women infertile.<\/p>\n<p>However, the tests did not meet the quality standards normally required by health regulators. Even if the early results had been correct, the amount reported would have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/30929\/red-flags-in-kenyan-vaccine-controversy-demand-answers\">far too small<\/a>\u00a0to affect fertility.<\/p>\n<p>The vaccines were tested again using better methods.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2014\/nov\/24\/kenya-tetanus-vaccines-void-anti-pregnancy-hormone\/?fbclid=IwAR1gPh4I1vAqPgIcXJEkSWVGpJ65WyZjwmxWSmyjpvwsGjXOZmIsprb5dJs\">No hCG<\/a>\u00a0was found.
