He claimed that this reset would clear the conflicts of interest the members had and restore trust in vaccine science.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_inner vc_row-fluid wpex-relative\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h3 style=\"text-align: left\" class=\"vc_custom_heading vc_do_custom_heading\" >The Facts:<\/h3>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>The\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/acip\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Advisory Committee on Immunization\u202fPractices<\/a>, or ACIP, is a team of independent vaccine experts who meet at the CDC. Once a new vaccine is licensed by the FDA, ACIP reviews all the data and provides guidance on how a vaccine should be used.\u202fTheir advice is what ultimately lands a vaccine on the schedule your provider uses to make sure you are up-to-date and protected.<\/p>\n<p>ACIP\u2019s voting members are mostly pediatricians, epidemiologists, and infectious disease doctors. One seat is set aside for a consumer advocate. They apply through an open process run by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Dozens of nonvoting liaisons from medical societies and federal agencies also sit in, which keeps the conversation broad and transparent.<\/p>\n<p>The ACIP\u00a0already operates under some of the strictest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/acip\/downloads\/ACIP-conflicts-interest-policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conflict\u2011of\u2011interest rules<\/a>\u00a0in the federal government, and\u00a0ACIP\u2019s charter forbids anyone with more than a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/government-entities\/federal-state-local-governments\/de-minimis-fringe-benefits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">de\u202fminimis industry interest<\/a>\u00a0from voting on products made by that company.\u00a0Members serve as\u202fSpecial Government Employees, must file public financial\u2011disclosure forms, and are required at every meeting to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/acip\/disclosures\/by-member.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declare<\/a>\u2014and, when necessary, recuse themselves for\u2014any relevant ties. Meeting minutes, member disclosures, and all supporting materials are posted online, and every session is webcast with time for open public comment. These safeguards were put in place precisely to keep vaccine policy transparent and insulated from commercial pressure.<\/p>\n<p>RFK Jr. himself was required to resolve his own\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.warren.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/warren-wyden-press-rfk-jr-to-resolve-conflicts-of-interest-ahead-of-committee-vote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conflicts of interest<\/a>\u00a0regarding an agreement with the law firm WisnerBaum, under which he receives 10% of the funds awarded in referred vaccine litigation\u00a0cases.<\/p>\n<p>By abruptly firing every voting member, no conflicts were cleared. Thus, vaccine safety remains unproven and may be driving today\u2019s surge in chronic childhood disease.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_inner vc_row-fluid wpex-relative\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h3 style=\"text-align: left\" class=\"vc_custom_heading vc_do_custom_heading\" >The Facts:<\/h3>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>The tweet suggests that children\u00a0get too many vaccines today, but think about it this way: which of the illnesses we prevent would you be okay with your child (or yourself) catching? Since the 1980s, doctors have only added about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chop.edu\/vaccine-education-center\/science-history\/vaccine-history\/developments-by-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one or two new vaccines every ten years<\/a>. That slow, careful pace shows that the schedule grows through solid science, not random decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, the schedule protects children from 22 different diseases. The claim that kids get 92 \u201cvaccines\u201d uses creative math.\u00a0Many vaccines come in more than one dose, so your immune system gets a reminder lesson.\u00a0A booster isn\u2019t a brand-new vaccine; it\u2019s like reviewing for a test (meeting the real disease) you\u2019ve already studied for. Also, some shots combine protection against four or even six diseases in a single injection. Take\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaxelis.com\/vaccine-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vaxelis<\/a>, for example. It protects against six diseases in three doses, but vaccine opponents count that as 24 separate vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>Others worry about too many ingredients or antigens. In truth, combination shots use fewer total ingredients than giving each vaccine separately. A child meets between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vaxopedia.org\/2016\/09\/07\/antigens-in-vaccines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2000 and 6000<\/a>\u00a0antigens every day just by eating, playing, and breathing.\u00a0The total from vaccines over 18 years,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chop.edu\/vaccine-education-center\/human-immune-system\/immune-system-and-vaccines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fewer than 200 antigens<\/a>, is tiny by comparison. So, the big numbers some people toss around about \u201ctoo many vaccines\u201d don\u2019t match how the schedule and kids\u2019 immune systems really work.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a mistake to believe that a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voicesforvaccines.org\/jtf_topics\/why-arent-vaccines-tested-against-placebos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">placebo<\/a>\u00a0has to be an inert substance, like saline, but that\u2019s not always the case. If there is an adjuvant that has been tested for safety in the past, the placebo might include the adjuvant so that people can&#8217;t detect whether they are getting\u00a0the vaccine or the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4157320\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">placebo<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.who.int\/iris\/bitstream\/handle\/10665\/94056\/9789241506250_eng.pdf;jsessionid=17ED1D2E5EF6423E9EA51B97B8126F88?sequence=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D9e421016fb%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1690295150789000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2OtGwTcPXaoJVcErgDLjqL\">The\u00a0World Health Organization<\/a>\u00a0guides\u00a0the\u00a0ethical use of placebos in vaccine trials in these situations.<\/p>\n<p>If a new vaccine is being tested to replace a currently used vaccine, you cannot withhold the currently used vaccine and give people a saline shot instead. Today, would you sign your child up for a study of the measles vaccine if you knew they had a 50% chance of receiving no vaccine? Of course you wouldn&#8217;t. You would never gamble your child&#8217;s health that way. It\u00a0would be unethical to withhold\u00a0the\u00a0existing vaccine from participants if not receiving it would pose a significant risk to their health.<\/p>\n<p>Even so,\u00a0saline-placebo-controlled trials are done for many vaccines to assess both\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voicesforvaccines.org\/toolkits\/vaccine-overview-development-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safety<\/a>\u00a0and efficacy, including the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/9142061\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rubella<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/3893185\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pneumococcal<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/2233906\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hib<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/17484215\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HPV<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sph.umich.edu\/polio\/\"
