Once a new vaccine is licensed by the FDA, ACIP reviews all the data and provides guidance on how a vaccine should be used.\u202fTheir advice is what ultimately lands a vaccine on the schedule your provider uses to make sure you are up-to-date and protected.<\/p>\n<p>ACIP\u2019s voting members are mostly pediatricians, epidemiologists, and infectious disease doctors. One seat is set aside for a consumer advocate. They apply through an open process run by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Dozens of nonvoting liaisons from medical societies and federal agencies also sit in, which keeps the conversation broad and transparent.<\/p>\n<p>The ACIP has operated under some of the strictest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/acip\/downloads\/ACIP-conflicts-interest-policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conflict\u2011of\u2011interest rules<\/a>\u00a0in the federal government, and ACIP\u2019s charter forbids anyone with more than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/government-entities\/federal-state-local-governments\/de-minimis-fringe-benefits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a token stake<\/a>\u00a0in a company from voting on that company\u2019s products.\u00a0Members serve as\u202fSpecial Government Employees, must file public financial\u2011disclosure forms, and are required at every meeting to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/acip\/disclosures\/by-member.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D2724fc8c33%26e%3Dee5f8f3aa7&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1752211598128000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3xI9BWow5Llai6yRZSst-1\">declare<\/a>, and, when necessary, recuse themselves for any relevant ties. Meeting minutes, member disclosures, and all supporting materials are posted online, and every session is webcast with time for open public comment. These safeguards were put in place precisely to keep vaccine policy transparent and insulated from commercial pressure.<\/p>\n<p>RFK Jr. himself was required to resolve his own\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.warren.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/warren-wyden-press-rfk-jr-to-resolve-conflicts-of-interest-ahead-of-committee-vote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3Ddac4c9a9b1%26e%3Dee5f8f3aa7&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1752211598128000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0GPpzWwjBDdcsOToxwEn6t\">conflicts of interest<\/a>\u00a0regarding an agreement with the law firm WisnerBaum, under which he receives 10% of the funds awarded in referred vaccine litigation\u00a0cases.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Malone&#8217;s claims, firing the previous members did not clear conflicts. The increase found in the abstract was 760% (risk ratio of 7.6), not 1135%, but more importantly, this increase isn&#8217;t found in other research. This is merely an abstract, a first\u00a0look at numbers that haven&#8217;t been fully investigated or peer reviewed.<\/p>\n<p>In this abstract, they don&#8217;t talk about the study population or the criteria for which diagnoses were obtained.\u00a0In order to conclude that there is an association between vaccines and autism,\u00a0the author\u00a0published this fully reviewed study\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/14595043\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. That study\u00a0showed no association between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voicesforvaccines.org\/glossary-words\/thimerosal\/\">thimerosal<\/a> and autism.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that this abstract was written in 1999. By 2001, thimerosal was removed from all childhood vaccines. Yet, autism rates continue to rise despite the lack of thimerosal. First, it only included 42 people who reported health problems after vaccination and 22 healthy vaccinated people. That\u2019s a very\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC4296634\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3De68f568aba%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1742155795521000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0JYwkajoDVZDTVsOyPVXV3\">small group<\/a>, and because participants volunteered, the study could be biased. Asking the volunteers to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC4224297\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D167b180853%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1742155795521000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1nUQa4BtMGjdP3Y-FGqfPM\">recall and report<\/a>\u00a0their own symptoms is another way the study could be biased. There was also no unvaccinated control group to compare results.<\/p>\n<p>The study found a link between those who received vaccines\u00a0and immune changes, but that doesn\u2019t mean the vaccine itself is causing these changes. Many of the people in the study had already had COVID, which is known to affect the immune system, and this study didn&#8217;t really separate out those who may have had an asymptomatic or otherwise undetected case. This means the changes seen might have been caused by the virus, not the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>The study found spike protein in the blood of some people up to two years after vaccination.\u00a0 However, this only happened in a few people, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/directorsblog.nih.gov\/2024\/10\/31\/many-people-with-long-covid-have-signs-of-persistent-sars-cov-2-proteins-new-findings-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D7b92b2d0f6%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1742155795521000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2A79kQlZwgV72PHjiLjG-z\">similar<\/a>\u00a0results have been found in those with Long COVID.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, while the study raises questions, it does not prove that COVID vaccines cause serious immune problems. It also doesn\u2019t clearly separate post-vaccination syndrome from long-term COVID-19.
