It\u00a0found that after the first dose of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voicesforvaccines.org\/vaccine-information\/shingles\/\">shingles vaccine<\/a>, adults age 65 and older had a small, short-term increase in shingles cases during the first 21 days. After that, the risk goes away. After the second dose, the overall risk of getting shingles drops by 73%.<\/p>\n<p>Even during that short period of higher risk, the shingles cases were rare (about 6.3 out of 1,000 people) and usually mild. This is a public reporting system where anyone can submit a report about a health problem after vaccination. However, these reports do not prove that a vaccine caused the problem. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccine-safety-systems\/vaers\/index.html\">VAERS website\u00a0<\/a>clearly warns that reports may be incomplete, inaccurate, or coincidental, and the data has limits when used for scientific conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>Many\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahajournals.org\/doi\/10.1161\/STROKEAHA.122.040430\">studies<\/a>\u00a0have looked at the safety of COVID\u00a0vaccines. These\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-024-49634-x\">studies<\/a>\u00a0show that the vaccines are safe for most people.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1876034125003703\">One study\u00a0<\/a>also points out that\u00a0getting very sick with COVID\u00a0can greatly raise the risk of a stroke (when blood flow to the brain is blocked) and other blood clots. The exact number is not fixed. Some recruits may receive only\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/usarmybasic.com\/about-the-army\/army-shots\/\">two or three<\/a>\u00a0shots if they are already up to date.
