He introduces his vaccine concern with the false claim that current COVID variants are \u201cno worse than the flu.\u201d In fact,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/covid-data\/covidview\/index.html\">the latest variants of COVID kill more than 450 daily<\/a>\u2014that\u2019s more than three times as many people as are killed by the flu. He claims that his high estimate of serious adverse events is based on \u201cgood quality data.\u201d However,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/36055877\/\">his numbers are based on the misleading findings of a study<\/a>. Multiple peer-reviewed studies have shown that serious adverse events from the COVID vaccine are rare and the benefits of vaccination outweigh its risks.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, this claim assumes that adverse events alone prompt the withdrawal of a vaccine. In fact, the decision to withdraw swine flu and rotavirus vaccines was not exclusively based on adverse events. These decisions also weigh vaccine benefit versus risk. In the two cases of withdrawn vaccines, the vaccine benefits did not outweigh the risks. He received a stern warning from the Medical Board of California for selling\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.medpagetoday.com\/special-reports\/exclusives\/94125\">mask<\/a>\u00a0and face shield exemptions for students, was dismissed from his previous practice for refusing to wear a mask, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/v29vh2q-michael-huang-md-has-treated-thousands-of-vaccine-injured-patients.html\">claims<\/a>\u00a0that he has written over 4,000 vaccine exemptions. Now, he says his family medicine and cosmetic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huangmdoffice.com\/\">clinic<\/a>\u00a0treats thousands of people with vaccine injuries.<\/p>\n<p>He incorrectly tries to use\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6320743167112\">VAERS<\/a>\u00a0data to suggest that vaccine injuries have risen 1700% since the pandemic began, even though\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vaers.hhs.gov\/about.html\">VAERS claims<\/a>\u00a0are not proof that an injury was caused by a vaccine. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(22)02465-5\/fulltext\">study<\/a>, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, compared the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/vac-gen\/immunity-types.htm\">immunity<\/a>\u00a0conferred by prior infection to that conferred by two doses of mRNA vaccine. Findings suggest that immunity from prior infection may be as protective as immunity from two doses of mRNA vaccine for variants up to and including the initial Omicron lineages.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are other important factors the tweet doesn\u2019t mention. First,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/how-to-compare-covid-deaths-for-vaccinated-and-unvaccinated-people\/\">the risk of death from COVID is far higher for unvaccinated people<\/a>\u00a0than for those who receive the vaccine. In order to get prior infection protection, you risk the potentially deadly consequences of facing COVID unvaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>Second, this study\u2019s scope was limited. It looked at the protection offered from two doses of mRNA vaccine but did not look at booster doses or address the issue of waning immunity. Both infection- and vaccine-induced immunity protection weakens over time.
