An immune response can be measured by the presence of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.gov\/publications\/dictionaries\/cancer-terms\/def\/interferon\">interferons<\/a>\u00a0(IFNs) in the body. Interferon is a natural substance that helps the body\u2019s immune system fight disease.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s43856-022-00083-x\">Research<\/a>\u00a0shows that interferon is produced\u2014not suppressed\u2014by vaccination and that those who had received a vaccine prior to hospitalization for COVID had a better antiviral interferon response than those who were unvaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>First, the author of the first paper mentioned should cause some hesitation. Previously she has claimed that vaccines cause\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/1099-4300\/14\/11\/2227\">autism<\/a>\u00a0and suggests that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/1099-4300\/14\/11\/2227\">glyphosate<\/a>\u00a0is a factor in COVID. Second, in this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC9012513\/\">paper<\/a>\u00a0is a claim that, when compared with those infected with COVID, there is a \u201cdramatic upregulation \u2026 of interferons (IFNs) in COVID-19 patients, but not in vaccinees.\u201d arguing that this is consistent with the idea that the anti-COVID-19 vaccines actively suppress type I IFN signaling when that is not borne out by the evidence.\u201d As we have explained above, research shows the opposite of this claim: interferon is produced\u2014not suppressed\u2014by vaccination.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the news segment claims that a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(22)00089-7\/fulltext\">Lancet study<\/a>\u00a0supports the conclusions of the paper. This is also untrue. According to the CDC, there have only been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/safety\/adverse-events.html\">9 deaths<\/a>\u00a0in the United States associated with COVID vaccination, all from blood clots caused by the J&amp;J\/Janssen vaccine. The death count from the COVID virus in the United States, on the other hand, is well over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#datatracker-home\">1.4 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The entire foundation of this tweeter\u2019s claim is a completely unscientific poll of 1,078 people (hardly an accurate sampling of our country\u2019s population). Poll participants were asked two questions: \u201cHas any member of your household died from COVID-19?\u201d and \u201cHas any member of your household died whose death you think may have been caused by side effects of COVID-19 vaccines?\u201d To the first question, 10% responded yes, while 11% responded yes to the second question. COVID vaccines actually protect against serious cardiac events and stroke in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacc.org\/doi\/10.1016\/j.jacc.2022.12.006\">people who have had previous COVID infections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So how does this tweet get it so wrong?<\/p>\n<p>Chalk this one up to mistaking anecdotal experience for scientific fact. The tweeted article features a British cardiologist who started to suspect that mRNA vaccines caused unexpected cardiac arrests, heart attacks, strokes, cardiac arrhythmias, and heart failure after his father suffered cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n<p>This unfortunate event highlights the dangers of using emotionally charged anecdotal experience to come to supposedly scientific conclusions. The cardiologist claimed to know his father\u2019s lifestyle and health, but he was his father\u2019s son, not his father\u2019s doctor. This cardiologist also didn\u2019t mention and may not have been aware of any past COVID infections his father may have experienced.<\/p>\n<p>Based on his limited knowledge of his father\u2019s health condition, this cardiologist decided that vaccines increase the risk of adverse serious cardiac events. This is the problem with using anecdotes alone, unsupported by any scientific research, to draw conclusions and rule out other possible causes of these cardiac events.<\/p>\n<p>This cardiologist never considered that a COVID infection\u2014and not a COVID vaccine\u2014might have weakened his father\u2019s heart.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do vaccines suppress your immune system?
