Now, a well-known anti-vaccine lawyer is claiming that thimerosal in\u00a0the\u00a0Hep\u00a0B\u00a0vaccine caused a 1995 \u201cexplosion\u201d in\u00a0autism\u00a0a few years after\u00a0the\u00a0vaccine became widely available. Let\u2019s review\u00a0the\u00a0problems with this claim.<\/p>\n<p>First, studies show that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccinesafety\/concerns\/thimerosal\/study-risk-autism.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D2c989ed5a7%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3YrOu71tkmaxLDWT9RWHoI\">thimerosal\u00a0<\/a>does\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajpmonline.org\/article\/S0749-3797(03)00113-2\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D7cd22aa6c5%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0LWXQit1BAqtWOG1UNXiL_\">not<\/a>\u00a0<wbr \/>increase\u00a0the\u00a0risk of\u00a0autism. In addition,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccinesafety\/concerns\/thimerosal\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D71ff2df0b6%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3QxsFY84q2y1EhyipLj3uW\">thimerosal has not even been used in childhood vaccines<\/a>\u00a0since 2001.<\/p>\n<p>Second,\u00a0autism\u00a0diagnoses continued to rise following\u00a0the\u00a02001 removal of thimerosal from all childhood vaccines.\u00a0The\u00a0continued rise of\u00a0autism\u00a0diagnoses is, in fact, mostly due to growing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/content\/article\/autism-rates-are-it-really-rise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D089096fe39%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2E9OHipgX9mKpggrgAFum3\">awareness<\/a>\u00a0and changing diagnostic criteria.<\/p>\n<p>Our anti-vaxxer does allude to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4215490\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3Dcab557946c%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0bPDNNCqKRujpKIB29eySv\">study<\/a>\u00a0that was approved by\u00a0the\u00a0CDC. This study used Vaccine Safety Datalink data to evaluate\u00a0the\u00a0effects of thimerosal in childhood vaccines.\u00a0The\u00a0study identified a signal of an increase in\u00a0autism, but a signal does not necessarily indicate causation between vaccination and side effects. A signal suggests a need for further study. The tweet cites this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biorxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2023.04.04.535604v1.full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D88e188f545%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw32TEK1i2hM99U8XsbcXYAQ\">preprint<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_inner vc_row-fluid wpex-relative\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h3 style=\"text-align: left\" class=\"vc_custom_heading vc_do_custom_heading\" >The Facts:<\/h3>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>This viral tweet is making a claim\u00a0about the preprint\u2019s conclusion that simply isn\u2019t true. The author claims that the \u201cstudy has concluded that COVID-19 vaccines are causing \u2018Long-term brain damage\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The preprint is actually talking about long-term neurological damage after COVID infection, not vaccines. In fact, the word vaccine shows up exactly once in the entire paper\u00a0and makes no\u00a0claims about the results of vaccination.\u00a0All results showing accumulation and damage from spike protein in the human brain were taken from people who had experienced COVID infection, not people who had been vaccinated. Vaccines were not studied at all in this paper.<\/p>\n<p>Spike protein was injected into mice and found to accumulate in the brain as well, but again, those findings don\u2019t necessarily translate to vaccines or humans. Previous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ema.europa.eu\/en\/documents\/assessment-report\/spikevax-previously-covid-19-vaccine-moderna-epar-public-assessment-report_en.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D01248de8d1%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0lWcuQQ8T7wF2V0XyZsYoZ\">bioaccumulation<\/a>\u00a0studies have shown that although mRNA did enter various tissues, including the brain, it was at very low levels for a very limited amount of time. Likewise, other studies have also documented the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41591-022-02001-z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3D270979b015%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw03DfV5Hnm3nAf3UjAzxQuT\">long-term neurological impact<\/a>\u00a0of COVID infection.<\/p>\n<p>While over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/covid-vaccinations#what-share-of-the-population-has-received-at-least-one-dose-of-vaccine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/voicesforvaccines.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De17a65409cd8f13ba7e58cc97%26id%3De71ac8f789%26e%3Dfc0735be13&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1684508598570000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1XGSAqFhdXudsHr-ABQTEt\">70%<\/a>\u00a0of the world\u2019s population has received at least one vaccine, we are not seeing what would be the obvious societal ills were it causing long-term brain by a computer scientist and finance experts.<\/p>\n<p>If vaccines were responsible for all these deaths during\u00a0the\u00a0pandemic,\u00a0the\u00a0<wbr \/>communities with\u00a0the\u00a0highest vaccination rates would have a higher rate of deaths. \u00a0However, data shows that\u00a0the\u00a0opposite is true.\u00a0The\u00a0communities with\u00a0the\u00a0highest vaccination rates had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/377\/bmj-2021-069317\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"
