Correcting this week’s misinformation: week of August 28, 2025

Are children born to COVID vaccinated mothers dying?

    The Claim:

A widely circulating chart claims that children born to mothers vaccinated against COVID are dying 77% more often than expected.

    The Facts:

The graph claims that there’s a 90%+ chance the babies never had COVID and that the mothers were vaccinated. But there’s no proof for either claim. In reality, less than 71% of women of childbearing age have had at least one COVID shot, and children are just as likely to catch COVID as adults.

Studies have shown that vaccine ingredients do not cross the placenta; only the antibodies the mother develops during gestation do – and those antibodies are the same as those they would develop for COVID itself.

Are babies better off skipping their vaccines?

    The Claim:

In an interview on the Sean Spicer show, cardiologist Peter McCullough claims that the childhood vaccine schedule is too rigid, that healthy babies are better off skipping or delaying vaccines until later in life, that the hepatitis B vaccine is unnecessary for newborns, and that vaccine companies push early shots mainly for profit and convenience rather than for children’s health.

    The Facts:

Babies are subjected to more challenges to their immune system at birth than they will be in the entire immunization schedule. Keep in mind that the amount of any ingredient in vaccines is very small–smaller than what a child will encounter naturally through living and breathing and eating, and as this study of aluminum in vaccines shows, they do not accumulate in a child’s body to toxic levels.

Because millions and millions of children have followed the vaccine schedule, scientists have been able to conduct studies showing that the schedule is safe.

While Hep B is sexually transmitted, it’s not only sexually transmitted. It is also passed vertically from mother to infant during birth. The tweet claims that mothers are tested so babies aren’t at risk, yet 1,000 infants get Hep B in the US every year. Hep B infection can lead to chronic Hep B. Chronic Hep B can last a lifetime and lead to serious illnesses such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. The younger you are when you get hepatitis B, the more likely it will become chronic. There is no cure for hepatitis B, but vaccines can prevent it.

The widespread implementation of Hep B vaccination programs, including the birth dose, has led to significant reductions in Hep B worldwide. By immunizing newborns, the goal is to achieve a high vaccination coverage rate and create a population with decreased Hep B transmission, ultimately reducing the burden of related diseases.

Are all COVID vaccinated people dying?

    The Claim:

Alex Jones posted a claim that COVID vaccines are deadly experiments, saying animals all died in trials, most people who got the shots will die by 2028, millions are already dead, and many doses were either poison or just salt water.

    The Facts:

Alex Jones says that “27 peer-reviewed doctors stated that 100% of people who got the vaccine will die by 2028 because of mRNA technology.” But this claim does not hold up when we look at the facts.

First, there is no such thing as a “peer-reviewed doctor.” Peer review is a system used in science to make sure studies are accurate and trustworthy. Before a study is published, other experts in the same field carefully check it for mistakes, bias, or poor methods. It is the research that is peer reviewed, not the person. If someone says “peer-reviewed doctors,” they are misusing the term and trying to make their claim sound more scientific than it is.

Second, the timeline in these claims keeps shifting. At different times, people have said that everyone who got the vaccine would die within six months, then within a year, then within three years, and then within five years. Now the claim has moved to 2028. Each time the deadline passes and vaccinated people remain healthy, the prediction changes. This pattern shows that the claim is not based on evidence, but on fear and moving the goalposts.

Third, there is no proof at all that 70% of vaccines were either poison or just salt water. Vaccines go through strict safety and quality checks before they are given to people. Batches are tested in labs, monitored during shipping, and tracked once they are used. If most vaccines were fake or harmful, it would have been discovered immediately by doctors, scientists, and public health agencies around the world. In fact, hundreds of millions of people have safely received COVID vaccines, and data from hospitals and health systems show they reduce the risk of severe illness and death.

These claims often mix scientific words with conspiracy theories to sound convincing, but they do not match the real evidence. Understanding how peer review works, how vaccine safety is monitored, and how predictions have repeatedly failed can help us see why these statements are not true.
