A virus that most people get—HPV—can cause cancer. Treatments for the different HPV-related cancers can be very difficult.
In this interview, Mathew talks about how he found out he had cancer, and what it took to survive it. He is still dealing with some lasting health effects, and he knows other HPV cancer patients who weren’t as ‘lucky’ as him.
Fortunately, the HPV vaccine could spare future generations from this ordeal.
“It is baffling when you see people arguing, I don’t want my kid to get that [vaccine]. My kid, there gonna be safer,” he said. “It’s not about being safer. It’s so transmissible and the infections are preventable.”
